Machzor Seder Ha-T’fillot - Prayers for the High Holydays: Days of Awe
In addition to the main services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, this new edition includes liturgies for other enhancing rituals and ceremonies, often drawn from traditions developed within our congregations.
For example, there are three alternative introductory liturgies before the Erev Rosh Hashanah service formally begins. The Machzor provides the structure, flexibility and materials for engaging Second Day Rosh Hashanah services. An outline and selection of readings are provided for a communal Tashlich ceremony, the symbolic casting away of sins in water, on Rosh Hashanah afternoon. Prayers are included for private or communal visits to the graves of family members during Elul or the rest of the penitential period.
A short ‘In the Home’ section of home ceremonies appears in each volume as well as a new calendar of readings for personal use in the month of Elul and during the Ten Days of Repentance. Each of the main services is prefaced with ‘Kavvanot’, introductions and meditations, that help focus our attention on the theme of the particular service before us, and each volume offers an impressive new study anthology.
